Apple Logic Pro 8 Audio Interfaces

Anyone knows how the upgrade will go? Do you have to sent your LP7 disks or dongle back to Apple?

I just wonder about one thing... does a single-window interface mean that with a MacBook or MacBook Pro and a big external display connected, I cannot do stuff like having the arrange window on the laptop screen and the mixer and plugs etc. on the external display?

That would be annoying...

Last year I switched from Logic Pro 7 to Nuendo. Now I'm definetly sure I took the right decision. I really tried to love Logic but I always found it the most unfriedly software I've ever used.
Sorry but Logic 8 doesn't seems to be an evolution of the previous version, I'm really disappointed.

Marco
Why would you be dissapointed? You moved to Nuendo and found the software that works for you.
Me, I'm going back to Logic after defecting as this looks great for creating music with...
Some things drove me nuts about Logic, but having read through the apple site about logic 8, they seem to have answered many of my questions and the price is right thumbsup
Not for everyone, but looks like it will do what I need anyway.

Unlikely.
More than likely you simply need a Logic 7 install or disc

Yesssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!

I still haven't read about it but I couldn't believe my eyes when the web site loaded up.

I really hope they addressed of its absurd issues, like bieng able to use a bus as input and record it!!!

Edit: No, it seems I could be right, but it's not on the spec so I'll have to wait till it arrives
Do we know if TDM and AU are separate still?
I don't really need RTAS but Au on TDM channels would be excellent.

Yup and full automatic delay compensation for outboard gear. It's all in the tech specs page!

Cool

Hmm... wonder how that pitch correction plugin sounds. Of the sound effects, it's one of the few that doesn't have samples on the Apple website.

Ha, I knew it was a good idea to wait for the new version before buyin. But I think it´ll be worth to wait for the first impressions of the speed of screen refreshing when movin thru the projects. Seems like they had some trouble with it during the beta phase due to the high (sample accurate?) timebar resolution. AND I WANT A 64 OR 80 BIT MIX BUS!!! Best thing would be a "full scale"-mixbus without any rounding before all signals are added! For me it makes a difference sound-wise (even if some other people seem not to care about this)

I'm disappointed because I was expecting something more from Apple. Switch to Nuendo has not been an easy decision for me since most of the people I work with use Logic. When people started to speak about Logic 8 aka "The PT Killer" I was sure that Apple would have done a great job, turning an unstable and unfriendly software in the perfect native DAW for both composers (my friends) and engineers (me).
It seems to me that Apple turned Logic in a product that for sure will be very successful from a commercial point of view, but IMO a professional product is another thing.

64-bit precision where required
mean: 64 bit mixbus? I require that

Or does it just mean you can use 64 bit resolution plugs?

It doesn't say it in the spec. It's from an Apple guy, but un-confirmed until my upgrade arrives.

Maybe check it out first.
All we are seeing is what is on the apple website i:e the commercial side of it. I reckon under the fluffy cover is a serious pro product. In any case, I'm not happy with other software I have been using, so will check it out.

No mention of the ESB- I wonder if it is an integrated mixer (finally) or if they have just renamed it?

What do you guys think:

I'm on Logic Pro 7, with a Digi 002 rack, and Dual PPC G5's. Everything's smooth.
If performing same tasks, will Logic Pro 8 run faster, same, or cripplingly slower than 7?
That's the $1million question for me.

Any word about this?

Also,

If XSKEY = Banished, and it's serial number,

How many times can we install?

Can I use Logic Pro 8 on main computer,
and then say Mainstage or Soundtrack on a Laptop?

ooooooooh

i just noticed that in the mainstage feature, they basically built in a better native version of Kore, where you can combine multiple AU instruments using stacks, splits, and layers, and they're all usable within logic. they really stepped up on this one..
