Question Difference btwn PCI, PCI-X, PCIe, and any others I should know about???

Just trying to do some research to learn for my next purchase. What are all these PCI, PCI-X, PCIe, etc. ????????

I've always used PCI and they work just fine, what are the others and what are the benefits and requirements?

Thanks

pci cards

The pci card is for g4s and the pci e card are for G5s.I believe the pcix card is for newer macs as well but maybe someone else will chime in here for you on the x card.Make sure your i/o is the right version for your card.

G4 was PCI
G5 was PCI-X, and for the last revision PCI-e
Intels are PCI-e

Basically they are upgrades of the PCI standard, X didn't change that much (some voltage differences) but the e revision is very different - the shape has changed and they are so much quicker. Some PCI-X cards could fit into PCI slots and visa versa, but PCI-e is completely different.

That's the key...PCI cards often have revisions that are compatible with PCIx...Pci-E(xpress) is a completely different form factor.
