OS: Xp Pro sp2
CPU: E6600
Ram: 2gig 800mhz ram
M/B: Asus p5
G/C: 128meg ATI

H/D 1x80gig 1x300gig & 160gig ext

Sound card: MOTU 828mk2
Sequencer: SX2 + most plugins/instruments ect

This was such a good purchase. And such good value for money. I basicaly copied the spec of a top end music computer retailer (but skimped on things like a rack mount case, and super quiet fans. Power wise its the same and i got it for about 2/3 the price!)

It never crashes and as much as i try, i cant get the CPU to go over 50% even when mixing 100 tracks + 15 vsti and lots of waves/CSR plugins. Im sure this is nothing compared to post production of a film ect, but for what i do(pop music) its like having no limitations. However, i thought that 6years ago when i got a P4 2ghz, 512meg ram. After a while, everyone finds away to max out what they have.

George,

I think it'll be great if we can come up with a common benchmark so that we can compare notes, see which motherboard is better, etc

Interfacecard (RME, MOTU): Creamware project
Interface: ada8000

built it myself several years back & it has served me well. no crashes since i installed the creamware card.
there have been a couple lockups when i record 16 tracks for an hour straight. the data has been retireavable though.
occasional dropout when i slam the cpu with fx but thats what the dsp's are for anyways.

i'm upgrading the interface to the creamware 16ultra for improved ad/da to backup the preamps on the wish list.
then possibly a new system once i'm convinced it's safe to transition to 64bit.

Heh, the system info 'template' is pretty biased towards Windows PC systems..

I have two machines that I use:

Sequencing/Writing/Recording:

Apple Mac Mini (CPU: intel Core Solo @ 1.5ghz)
1gb 667mhz DDR2 RAM
60gb internal hard drive (5400rpm, SATA)
160gb external drive (7200rpm, firewire)
Logic Express 7.2.1
eMagic MT-4 midi interface
M-Audio FireWire 410 audio interface

Mixing (this one is recently acquired so still getting it set up):

Apple G4 tower (sawtooth, 450mhz G4 CPU, soon to be 1.5ghz)
640mb PC100 RAM
120gb internal hard drive (7200rpm, IDE)
one UAD-1 PCI card

Hey Squali,

I tried Logic with 2 x 1GB PC5300 ram form Crucial, but got the old Logic error message "out of memory" when trying to open songs, (although some did play back ok even with a few Native and UAD plugs running, but just too unstable. So backed it down the the 2 x 512 that came with the PC! Shame co's like you some are not having problems with 2 GB but quite a few have.

If my memory serves(no pun intended) the last version of LAWP 5.5.1 did not properly support any more than 1 gig of memory.

On my 2 gig PC where I usually run Nuendo, whenever I have to revisit an old Logic song, I have a switch in the start up boot.ini that limits XP to only see 1 gig of memory. Then logic works fine. the rest of the time its using 2 gig

Thanks Adam. I know some guys who are not experiencing any issues with 2 gb, so thought I'd try.

Please no one else reply to this topic in this thread as, do not want to hijack this thread any further.

Not the most high-end system out there, but super quiet and quite steady. Use the LaCie for BFD and Gigastudio.

I'm new here; figured I'd post my spec to get started...

This one was a home build; I've probably dropped about $1200 into it (not sure since I've upgraded it over a few months.

XP pro x64 running on :

Asus M2n-SLI (nvidia 570 chipset)
single core AMD 2.4 3800 (soon to be a x2
2 GB corsair 800mhz DDR2 ram
nvidia 8800
soundblaster audigy 1 (old school, just for the games, though)
3 SATA 7200 rpm hard drives comming in at a total of 300 gb.
dvd burner..

sider bar; its been a real bitch finding a firewire mixer that supports x64.
I'd imagine vista x64 will be the same way.

What type of regulator are you using? The VIC needs a +5 and +9 supply, and i'mm wondering if it gets a little warm sucking up the extra 4 volts?

No bashing the Commodore! My Commodore will outlast any of your studio computers! Even Ataris!

Also running 2x UAD-1

I moved up from a P4 3GHZ about three months ago. Songs that were running @ 90% on the P4 are now running @ 10% on the quad. I haven't had a project lately that can even touch 50% of this processor. It took a while to find a stable hardware configuration though (went through 6 different motherboards), but once it stabalized it became what dreams are made of.heh
