Midi Controllers,can you SAVE it?

Hi guys! I have a very simple question regarding midi controllers..
I'm planning to buy the new Akai MPD padcontrol, and I would like to assign the knobs to various plugins parameters .
Since i believe it's a LONG process ( i still have to figure out HOW to assign parameters to knobs..) ,I would like to know if there's a way or a program to save all these parameters so if I re-install all my plugins i won't do it again from START!
How do you guys handle the assigning problem?
Thank you in advice for any help!!

The remote devices/generic remote function in cubase is rather flexible IMO. You can setup all your cubase stuff and then export it to an XML file as a backup.

For your plugins and such - you'll probably want to use presets on the device itself. My korg has 12 "scenes" I can store for different plugins and such.

Generic remote is the "standard" solution.
You can assign any midi-signal to almost any function. Takes a lot of time to set up, but once you´ve done that, you won´t have to do it again. If I remember correctly, adding/removing tracks (in between existing tracks)will probably mess with your setup. I used a template for all my projects to avoid this.

You can also use bulk dump to save to a standard midi file that can be played back from any host, allowing you to save as many setups as you like.
