anybody linking two CPU's together for more flexibility?

We'd like to create a no-limits system and was wondering if anybody has experiences with linking two PC's together to share the work. (We run Nuendo v3)

And if so... what tasks do you divide to each computer?

Are there any latency issues?

Thanks

I just built a Quadcore and I don't forsee maxing it out anytime soon....even at 96k. System Link just adds possible issues and stability.

You mean like with FXteleport or VSTSystem Link?

Reaper has two methods built in. ReaMote and ReaStream.

You could use rewire to Reaper from Nuendo to get it done.

FXTeleport with Synergy and/or VNC works great.

Audio on the main computer and samples/giga/VSTi's on the slave(s) seems to work best.

I spent a long time trying this and in the end it proved to be a bit of a waste of time. The best way to do it involves two soundcards and two midi interfaces. You just connect one to the other as if it were an external synth and use it for VIs and samplers. All the ethernet solutions I tried introduced tonnes of latency and timing problems. Better to spend the money on a single powerful machine.

Nope.

The only reason I'd see it being worth it would be if you needed to run a lot of RAM-intensive VSTis, like many instances of East-West or Vienna orchestral stuff; That way, you could just use the one system to run additional instances, thusly having access to 8GB of RAM while running Windows XP.

If you need it for anything else, it's simply time to upgrade your computer.

There should only be latency issues with armed tracks

I'm running a G5 dual 2.5 running DP 5.12 controlling a G4 via SMPTE running DP 5.12 and a MUSE Receptor slaved to the G4.

So 3 computers....

G5 - audio - tracking and mixdown

G4-Receptor are Midi machines

Considering I can run RMX, Trilogy, Atmosphere, Disco DSP, NI Elektrik Piano, KontaKT 2, MOTU Symphonic, iDrum, Microtonic, Ultrafocus, MOTU Mx4, MOTU Ethno, Arturia Jupiter, and Latigo and Ableton LIVE at the same time,

I don't think it's a waste.
