Need a PC for PTLE

Ok, so I'm a mac guy, and really know nothing about pc's in terms of what's "required" for PT.

A friend of mine just bought an mbox pro and is now looking for the computer to go with it. He's got a budget of about 2000 or so, however people keep telling him about imcompatible chipsets....so what should he get?

You should really go to the DUC for this. Go to the Windows LE forum and check the stickys for best laptop and desktops.

I would suggest a Core 2 Duo CPU, and a motherboard based on the 975 chipset.

Those are the most rock solid and fast PC configurations I've seen.

Talk to Sonica or ADK before you even think about getting a computer from Sweetwater.

I have a Sonica. Couldn't be happier. They are there for you if you need them.

Here for the gear

generic PC

I've been running PT LE 6.4 and 6.9 with 002 rack for 3 years and I'm using a generic built PC with Intel P4 and Asus Motherboard, XP Pro. I'm extrememly happy with the reliablity of this setup. The CPU gets sluggish when i have 30 tracks of audio, using 3 or 4 RTAS plug ins simultaneously, but this can be overcome by bussing verbs to aux tracks. I've heard that the Core Duo (Dual Core processors) perform well with PT LE as well.

I just upgraded to a new dual core PC, which is a dedicated PTLE machine. It has a dual core Athlon 2.6 gig processor and an Asus M2N (i think) motherboard. Could not be happier with my purchase. Runs PTLE like a dream. Yesterday I recorded 35 minutes of 12 inputs and not one hiccup (I wasn't trying to stretch it or anything, I just got tired of playing). Ran 2 instances of Drumagog with no issues, and tons of plugs.

PCUSA.com.... I have purchased 2 PCs from them, and they completely kick ass in price and quality.
