PC Interface question

Hi all

Here's the scenario...to make it simple I will describe a whole lot of givens to take them out of the equation.

You have your favourite mic (U47, C12, anything) and its plugged in via the best mic cable you can buy to your favourite pre-amp (Neve, API, A-Designs, Sebatron, etc). The output from the pre-amp goes through your favourite outboards (Comp, etc) and arrives at your favourite AD converter (Weiss, Prism, etc), clocked with your favourite wordclock and exits the converter as an ADAT lightpipe stream at your favourtie sample rate/bit depth. So no debate or question so far.
Now you want to put this ADAT into your PC with your favourite logic, SONAR, Pro Tools, etc DAW software.

Here comes the question......
What is the method you would use to get the lightpipe data into your DAW...?????

Would you go external hardware with a FIREWIRE interface?
Would you go internal card with direct ADAT lightpipe connections?
What are the "specs" that define quality for this piece of hardware?
Any suggestions with reasons why its better?

Thanks in advance.

once its digital....keep it digital.

ADAT I/O to ADAT I/O doesn't really matter what interface or DAW program.

Thanks for the reply. Does this mean that (taking converter quality out of the equation) regardless of which ADAT input card I use into the DAW, the digital quality will be the same?

Regards
