CPU fan - degrease?

My stock, noisy, CPU cooler/fan began making a new weird noise.
Im going to replace it with a zalman CPU cooler. I recently read something
about needing degreaser. Do you have to get and apply a degreaser before applying the new thermal paste?

I always use rubbing alcohol and some of those 2" square make-up pads my wife gets at Walmart. Works great, might have to go through two or three pads and let it dry for 10-15 minutes.

I've re-built literally hundreds of systems, and I've always simply removed the old heat sink and applied the new thermal paste and slapped it on. No worries.
