Cubase user envying DUC quadzilla thread

I was checking out the duc forum and all the buzz over there about the quadzillas , and as a cubase user I was like F***! Nothing like that on the cubase forums. Thats pretty lame ! I wish we had something ! TO help the not so geeky users to go thru the scary .process of building your costumized system...

Yeah, cause a quad core really helps when you hit that 32 track limit.

Hey scott, What I meant by the thread was that woud be cool to have a thread where people who REALLY know how to pick PC parts and build system that can brake records , like yourself, could lead people in that direction. That's it. I can read the date of the posts, I know that is really old. And I've been reding your posts, I know you know your stuff and I also know what I don't know...Anyway... I will keep my research..

That's because you have to register with your USB key number... And almost nobody has that offcourse

I JUST got my replacement key for Cubase...
They make it such a pain in the ass, that it makes Cubase software OWNERS, wanting to download a keygen in 5 min and get running again..

I had to UPS my OLD broken key, BACK to Steinberg...THEN they had to email Germany, then I had to purchase a new key, and then the emailed me back a code 4 the Key..

My studio was down 4 like 5 days to sort that out...

Steinberg needs a better system...

Well it sucked for me because all the hardware guys were on the Nuendo forum. As a lowly registered cubase owner, I couldn't post there.

I can see serials for support type forums, product specific forums, but at least open up forums related to hardware and soundcards and the like. I built my system off of what people on the nuendo forums were doing right before the dual core AMD's came out. I could easily have built a POS if it weren't from users there. I especially liked that that crowd was pretty hard numbers based, not a bunch of my chip beats your chip, just because I say so was going on.

Luckily, my system was based on what several users had. It was established, so I didn't have any questions or problems.

I think they have the total right to do it ! It is the minimum a software developer could ask. Maybe all forums could be open for any steiberg DAW user but definitly do it. So you can only came in if you have the serial number. It is the minimun you got to do ! So, everybody complains that the Dididesign/m-audio stuff are simply dongles. well, if people cannot respect the software they actually like, and it seems like a big chunck of people are like that, then you really should impose something. At least until the "REAPER like" apps rule the world.
Actually if that is how things work , steinberg should as well do the dongle system, people would complain but so what. People bitch all the time, anyway.
Of course it would not happen, and I don't wish that , besides it would probably have a lot more downsides then good. But it makes you think on the other side of things.

Just a heads up. That's my build, but be aware.
The Asus PW5 DH Deluxe has issues with PCIe FW cards.
It balks from time to time when you use them.
It's on board FW controller works great, though.
I wanted to use a PCIe FW card to avoid PCI bus issues, but to no avail.

You might want to try this forum.

I just built a system using an Intel Q6600 (2.4 quad) overclocked to 2.6 using a MSI P35 motherboard.
This thing is really fast!! Mixing sessions which I couldn't run on my dual athlon (AMD 4400) even at higher buffer settings, barely hit 40% on lower buffer settings (64-128 samples).
The fact that I replaced my old RME Hammerfall with the new PCI-Express HDSP probably also helps as there's no stress on the PCI bus.
This system also has 4 PCI-Express slots AND 2 PCI slots...initially I'm planning to try to run a HD3 accel on this system next to two UAD cards, (I know it's not supported but I'll play the guinea pig).
I'll see how that goes, but I really don't feel that much need for a HD system anymore. In my private studio people don't ask for it and now I can really monitor at low latencys without the fear of my system crapping out.

So strauss,
so far so good right? Any nagative feedback on your new system? does n't sound like you have any issues with it. Would you mind saying what software did you use observing the difference on cpu hit ? Did you already try the UAD cards in it?

Thanks for sharing ...

I'm running Cubase with 2 UAD cards.
The motherboard is a MSI Neo2 FIR.
So far so good, though I noticed that with 32/64 buffer settings the performance meter drops when I disable Multi CPU's in Cubase, though this is a Cubase problem afaik.

Built the system I posted about above (Q6600-P5W Del-2gb) with a e-mu 1820m. Works flawlessly (sp?).

My friend doesn't have any UAD, PoCo, Duende or FW soundcards (somehow I seem to trust PCI(e)-based cards better)
