Melodyne killed my brand new computer (temporarily)

Was putting Melodyne on a couple of backup tracks that needed tuning because they were really high and written with women in mind, yet they were sang by a man who got them fairly close. All of a sudden PT's crashed and the computer froze... I would have been pissed at the work I lost if my whole computer didn't start running incredibly slow, which quickly replaced my anger at PT's. Bootup started taking like 5 minutes (on a Mac Pro Quad Core!) and nothing would respond worth a ****. So, after trying numerous options (Disk Doctor, removing startup items, etc.) and knowing that I couldn't wait until tomorrow to call Apple since I'm mixing, I did an Archive and Install and reinstalled Pro Tools. It's been a ****ty few hours, but I'm back up and running and almost done with this mix. Anyone else have any software sabotage their computer like that?

I would never do a re-install thing unless REALLY needed and only where all other analysis have failed, remember it's not Windows ;-)

First: what the Apple Disk Utility reported?

Second: if there was anything related to the hd, I would have tried to run DiskWarrior.

Also AppleJack is a very useful all-in-one tool (check disk, permissions, caches, preferences, etc.), but it needs to be used with a bit of knowledge.

Disk Doctor reported no errors. I was angry and wanted to wipe it clean... end of story... it didn't take that long and I was mixing by myself fortunately. Thanks for the reply though. Take care.

What version of melodyne do you run? I had a crash last week, and techsup recommended that I upgrade to the latest melodyne. Also, techsup @ melodyne is on the ball. They always answer my questions back, pretty quick, even for being in Germany. And I mean that as, on the other side of the planet!

You really have to be careful with what software you install on alot of these new computers. Always double check or call the company to make sure the software will work correctly with your new pc. Alot these new computers are great. But alot of the software is not written for alot of these new quad core computers.
