1.6 Ghz G5 with MOTU PCI 324

I have been told that my PCI 324 will work in my 1.6Ghz G5 (the first and lowest level G5 introduced.)

I have also been told that ALL G5s require PCIe cards.

I have not had time to try it out yet and it is working 100% in my G4.

Well?

PCIx is what your G5 is. All the Mac Pros and the last few generations of the G5 are PCIe.

I have a Dual 2.0 G5 that is PCIx.

Your PowerMac G5 1,6 is pci, not pci-x. The low-end PMG5 was always pci until apple released the dual core PMs with pci-e. But you'll need a motu pci-424 to make things work with your G5 anyway. Has something to do with the different voltage on the pci-bus in G5s in comparison to i.e. G4. At least that was the case when I upgraded.

Lookee here at what Mac sez....

Power Mac G5 - Technical Specifications

No mention of any PCI slot voltage differences.

Looks like it WILL support the PCI324.

Doh!!!

I stand corrected!

IIRC, I could not use my digi 001 in any G5 because of this voltage issue...
