Are there no MIDI compressors?

I think there was one in Cubase.

Studio One doesn't seem to have one.

Can't find one around the web either.

It would have to be built into the DAW....Cubase and Logic both have them. S1 doesnt likely have ANY midi plug ins. Most dont.

It has Note FX, like MIDI inserts.

I'm no programmer, but a MIDI compressor should be coded in no time, me thinks.

Airwindows Chris for example would probably do it on his coffee break.

Reaper has one too.

Everyone but Studio One it seems.

People in the S1 forum also demand it.

It's odd, given that one has a crazy amount of audio compressors, many of them free, you can play with them forever without ever getting any music done.

Am I right, my slutty friends?

Well then there is a couple of VST plugins, which can do roughly what you want.
I haven't tried it specifically with S1, but generally it should work, when a DAW/sequencer support MIDI I/O at VST plugins.

One of them is Veloscaler from there:
https://www.codefn42.com/veloscaler/index.html
It doesn't look like normal compressor, but it allows you to split incoming MIDI events by its velocities to five groups and do individual velocity scaling at each group. So with some effort you can quite nicely approximate compressing (or say expanding) curve with that.

The other option at Windows is at free Reaplugs.
https://www.reaper.fm/reaplugs/
There is ReaJS VST plugins, which allows you to load any native Reaper effect in JSFX language. There are tons of useful JSFX plugins and also some for MIDI velocity scaling/mangling. Some are right in that package, others are freely downloadable say from Reaper forum..
https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=91981
The downloadable package for compressor is at post number 6

But as I've mentioned, you need to test, whether it will be working also in S1.

Third option.. It took me a while to find archived download links (original author didn't update it for many years and original internet domain expired)
pizmidi is package of various VST utilities, where is also plugin called midiCurve, which can do exactly what you need.
go to: https://code.google.com/archive/p/pizmidi/downloads
for 64bit Windows get archive named: pizjuce_x64_20120111.zip

I'm very curious how you use a MIDI VST in S1.
I think it's not too easy.

Please report.

best regards

Or impossible.

Thanks again, Michal, I will try those in my Cubase Elements 9.5.

I was hoping not having to jump between DAWs anymore.

Spent about an hour trying to get the license to run again, looked it up on Youtube, and man, people HATE Steinbergs licensing.

I'm not sure, how is that with current S1 versions. I had some vintage S1 version 2, which I put on notebook.
It seems to work, but you need to workaround that via two instrument tracks there.
The first track is with midiCurve (which was listed among instruments) and MIDI clips/events or some keyboard input, then the another track is with an instrument, which plays actual sound. Finally this second instrument track has its input set from the first track with midiCurve.
Looks like it's working here, of course if you want to play directly through both instrument tracks from keyboard, monitoring (or recording) needs to be enabled at both.

You're welcome, but I'm also not really sure, Element version of Cubase support MIDI VST inserts. So you might need the same workaround with second track for piz VSTs like I've mentioned for S1.
