A compressor like API 2500 or The Glue or Pulsar Smasher, depending on the needs

A Pro Q3 dynamic eq to dial back harsh freqs if any

A limiter to tame the peakiest of peaks - usually Ozone Maximizer in IRC 1

That's about it, doesn't need to be too complicated, maybe a tape or tube saturator earlier in the chain if appropriate

I'm mostly starting out with SKNote's 2500 set up as a parallel compressor, Airwindows' Buscolors4, Overloud's 550 eq, and Voxengo's Elephant acting as a limiter or clipper.

That's not to say I won't change things if that doesn't work for the track. I used to use IK's 33609 on drum bus a lot, but I'm using it on the master bus recently so the drums are hitting that anyway...

These are in my template and they work pretty well for me most of the time:
Studio One Console Shaper (the basic mix engine fx)
Waves NLS Bus
Studio One Fat Channel Passive EQ (Pultec style)
Waves CLA-76 (the blue stripe)

I use the Waves API 2500 as a drum parallel most of the times. Sometimes I put an EQ on that channel too.

My drum process is different, I use busses within a bus.
at 13:17 on this vid, I explain my drum bus and the plug-ins I use...

Something I use nothing, sometimes I do parallel busses, sometimes I sum those busses together, sometimes not. With that said, here's what happens more often:

Summing bus usually gets the UAD SSL Bus Comp or FabFilter ProC2 followed by a UAD Pultec and/or Softube's Weiss EQ. Bottomline here is wether or not I want "mojo" or if I want it to keep it "clean".

Parallel bus: ELI Arousor, Sondtoys Devil Loc Deluxe/Decapitator, FabFilter Saturn 2 or whatever gritty compressor or saturation works. Depends on the "compression-to-distortion ratio" that I'm trying to achieve.

Reeq (kinda like fabfilter), Tape Satch, Pultec, Molot, sometimes L2

I tried the Waves Scheps Parallel Particle and liked it a lot!

- Acustica Pink (API 2500) or Ebony D112 compressor
- TDR Nova post compressor to mitigate any weird resonances if there are any and to put some girth or sheen post compression
- Sometimes I'll Saturate/distort for effect - This might be any clipper and/or saturation plugin but often it's the PSP Vintage Warmer

True Iron (crushing the 108x, DNA off)
Pro-Q 2 (cutting some 500 Hz)
...Supercharger GT? (happens to be here today, but usually isn't)

then the drums get brauerized (mixed with the bass)

True Iron (again, 108x DNA was on but that seems wrong to me)
Waves API-2500 (not really helping though, I don't think)

I'd suggest giving SKnote's A25 a try. They don't do demos, and some of his plugs are a bit quirky, but A25 has been solid for me and I'm really really impressed with it.

Here for the gear

Usually MJUC MK3 for snap and glue. If necessary, Nova GE for getting rid of nasty resonances.
(After that I sum the bass and drums and use SDRR as a clipper to tame the peaks and possibly another SDRR for more obvious saturation and character)

CPU allowing I use Acustica Celestial's saturation and Diamond Lift , or Airwindows Focus if I need something light. Another trick I for drums for pop/edm: one clap and snare bus, one bus with rest of percussion. Then use a sidechain compressor on the bus with the rest of the percussion triggered by both the kick and the snare/clap buss. Great way to get a groove goin'

Cytomic The Glue (sometimes two - one for faster attack, second for longer)

FabFilter Saturn Clean Tape follows, to ''lock'' the peaks and raise RMS.
