Did your new Mac PRO suddenly become Obsolete?

New Apple Silicon cpu transition is very much like powerpc to intel transition.

Seems crazy to buy a new mac for a while....

Computers are no more an investment than a new car is. Folks shouldn't buy based on resale value later, but buy based on the ability to get the job done for you now.

Chances are, the move to Arm for the high-end Macs will be the last thing they do as part of this transition. I would expect them to focus on the thin/light and long battery life segment of the products first and work up from there.

In the meantime, your mac will be fine. You may eventually need to keep it around anyway, if you use plugins or older software that will not be recompiled.

No, according to the keynote there are more Intel models in the pipeline.

And it will continue to do what it does for years to come.

Intel Macs will still be around and used for many years to come.

I still have Power PC Macs that work fine to this day.

My Intel Macs will also work fine. And they'll still work fine years from now. They won't automatically stop working because of a video stream that happened the other day.

I agree with the poster above who said that the higher end Macs will most likely be the last things to be updated during the transition period.

There will be new Intel Apple products coming out soon too.

To know the future, look at the past.

2005 - Apple announces switch to Intel
2013 - PowerPC hardware officially reaches obsolete status

So in 2028 or thereabouts, the OP might be correct and Intel Macs will be obsolete. Though they will still be able to be used and working fine for even decades after that, or until the machine dies.

If they become unsupported by Apple at any point in the future you can just install Windows

Should I buy an Intel Mac?
With Apple transitioning from Intel to Apple Silicon powered Macs over the next two years is it a bad idea to buy an Intel Mac now
