Moving Everything from External to Internal Drive

With the new 16in MacBook Pro supporting up to 8TB I'm looking to change my file management from storing and running my samples, projects, libraries, etc. in my external drive to the internal drive instead. I'm looking to replace my 2015 MacBook sometime in 2020 and I feel like the new MacBook Pros have a fast enough SSD to run with no issues.

Problem is, I'm not entirely sure how Ableton, Pro Tools and Logic will behave. I've tried my best to make sure samples and projects files are saved within the project folders but I'd hate to see the "Missing Files" message pop up if I were to open a project same can be said for sample based vsts. I may keep Pro Tools sessions and their respective files in the external drive still since there is times I need to run a session off a computer at another studio but I'd still like to keep the option of storing Pro Tools files interally. I'm wondering if it's possible to make a folder in the "Documents" folder that's named exactly what my external drive is named but I'm not entirely sure how to set it as a Volume so the DAWs will not need to look for the new folder, but any suggestions on how I can approach this would be very appreciated.
