Sample rate noise

Got some old material recorded at 192k and was trying to work with it at 48k, then I noticed that, if I do so, every clip plays with a horrible and loud "background" noise which disappears if I switch to 192k environment. Nothing changes if I swith buffer size.
Is it normal? Didn't know that interpolation could do something like this... Same issue if I try to work with it at 96k.
Ableton user.
Anyone?
