Here for the gear
Tell me if I have this right...

OK before I melt my credit or debit card, I need to know if this will work.

2 Focusrite 18i20 ADAT into RME Hammerfall HDSP 9652 in an 8x PCI-E slot.

Both ADAT out on the AI's into separate ADATS on the card.

DO I have this right?

Lives for gear

RME HDSP 9652 is PCI card, not PCIe (PCI Express).
So no, you won't fit it there, unless your board has legacy PCI slot. When your board doesn't have that slot, you'll need HDSPe RayDat.

18i20 will work standalone as a converter there, but you need to set it first (channels routing: analog in->ADAT out, ADAT in->analog out and likely ADAT as a clock source) via its control software and save that setting to hardware memory. In sum this setup give you 16 analog mic/line inputs and 16 line outputs.. for rates up to 48k. Channel count at higher rates (eg. 88.2, 96k) gets halved over ADAT, so you'll have 4 I/O channels to each box.
