Can the Roland Octa-Capture UA1010 and Roland UA1610 Studio-Capture be synced

I'm using a Roland UA 1010 Octa-capture with CbB (Cakewalk by BandLab) which allows me to record up to eight tracks simultaneously. I wish to expand and record at least 16 tracks.

To this end I can purchase another UA 1010 and link them with the provided S/PDIF connection, or, I can purchase the Roland UA 1610 Studio capture which has 16 tracks already available.

My question is. Can the UA 1010 and UA 1610 be synced via the S/PDIF connection available on each? Does anyone already do this?

Lives for gear
You can sync 2 units via a coaxial cable. Page 63 of the manual describes how to sync 2 units in detail. It basically involves a coaxial cable and pressing the VS Expand button on the front of the unit. You have to set one of the unit's clock as master and the other as slave and set the sampling rates to match (44.1hz etc.). Again, refer to the manual for additional details. One other important detail, both units must be connected to the same USB controller. If not refer to the manual for additional instructions.
