96k latency? Condenser Microphones

96k latency?

I typically record in 48k, 24bit... but I was snooping on slate’s Website and there’s a bit there that caught my eye... basically, recording at 96k at the lowest buffer size possible gives the best latency...

Virtual Microphone System - VMS ML-1 - SlateDigital

Is this true? If I record at the same low buffer size I normally use but at 96k will I get less latency?

Yes, it's directly proportional with the sample rate. At any given buffer size, 96K will give you half the latency of 48K.

Thx!

Yes. It's very true and also true for a few other companies as well as the rtl's are sometimes significantly lower.

That's true, but its not a totally free lunch. Your CPU is working harder at 96k so there's no guarantee that what runs at 48k 64samples will run at 96k 64samples, for example.
