Softube SSL 9000K - Qs

I’m yet to catch the SSL bug, the emus I try always make me think brittle, however this 9K emu coupled with the console 1 has really caught my interest.

I’m wondering what audio passed through it sounds like when set flat, no vhd. If it’s entirely transparent wouldn’t that just be sterile in a DAW environment?

What are your thoughts on using something like slates VCC set to SSL mode in parallel? Seems counterintuitive to me given the desk design philosophy was to eliminate as much as possible any non linearity.

Maybe it's just mine but I started to realize it rounded off my low end a little too much when used on all my channels and busses so I went back to the 4k and have been happy ever since. YMMV but I have a pretty extensive bus setup in my daw (reaper) running into an SSL bus comp (hw) so I'm not complaining (much lol). But before I noticed that man it's a sweet sounding console but it's one of those consoles that pairs well with a tube back end as the high end can get a littel out of hand for vocals and mid-range frequencies if you go too far and you will know when you've gone too far pretty easily.

Slate VCC only emulates the 4K flavors of SSL. 9Ks are a different beast.

Console 1 nails the 9K channel strip, that's about it. The BX_Console N with the thd turned off also has the character of a 9K (though not a 9K emulation).

9K are super clean with lots of headroom. You slam the channel or run it hot like a 4K, the sound breaks up.
