Can You Get Serious Work Done in a DAW With a MacBook Pro?

3.1GHz quad-core 7th-generation Intel Core i7 processor, Turbo Boost up to 4.1GHz
16GB 2133MHz LPDDR3 memory
512GB SSD storage
Radeon Pro 560 with 4GB memory
Four Thunderbolt 3 ports
Backlit Keyboard - US English

Geez and thats with only 512 SSD storage and 16g ram, which I don't think is expandable.

Also, could I do OK choosing the 2.9 g processor?

How can anyone use 512 internal storage for apps, etc?

So if you get more it gets up to 3400 bucks quick.

Is anyone doing this?

I wondered because my iMac needs replacing immediately and the one I would get isn't available for like ten days. So I thought of a Mac Book Pro, which delivers sooner, but is really expensive.

Thanks for any input.

I usually do about 40 tracks and use a UAD Apollo.

Any current (27") iMac would do 40 tracks (even without Apollo) - just never owned a 21.5 so can't say.

Buy one from the Apple store today.
Order a BTO iMac like you want
When it gets there - return the store bought one to Apple.

I would think the MBP would also be a fine choice with other pluses. I have a 2016 13.3 MBP i5 (dual core) that handles that kind of track load no problem.

PS - LOVE my 1TB PCIe SSD drive - a complete DAW, Sample, Audio drive at incredible speed. (big libraries and bulk storage go elsewhere)...
