Metadata lost in Cubase

So I'm starting a project with someone who has sent me nature field recordings for clean up.....I work in CUBASE.
The files he sends contain metadata. After I finish the clean up work, bounce down the edit and send it off, he tells me his metadata has been stripped from the files?. I've never worked with metadata before so i was clueless as to how one handles this. After some research it seems CUBASE can NOT write metadata to audio files. I'm not trying to write it, but why would it be stripped from the raw files??

I think it can only write in broadcast wave data from the project level or very basic mp3 tag stuff. It doesn't have a dedicated meta tag editor.
If the file is being edited and saved under a new name or overwritten then yes probably stripping out any meta data formats it does not read or write.
What type of metadata is written into the file? RIFF, BWF, iXML, or iD3?

Sounds more like a job for a mastering program like Wavelab not a sequencing/mixing and somewhat pre-master app like Cubase.
