You are correct, the DPC Latency Checker utility from Thesycon is limited to Win7 and its cousins, and their website says so.

The LatencyMon tool from Resplendence offers Win10 compatibility and that's the standard utility these days. Link is below.

I wanted a card with 4GB of memory so I bought an RX580 from a friend. I know it's an overkill for DAW use, especially if you don't play games, but here are the results:

I'll do mine properly tomorrow, I have both AMD and Nvidia in the same laptop so it should be a good comparison, freshly installed and all the ms crap etc, removed.

What I do have to report is the last time I cleaned it up, a few weeks back. It was then able to run at 96k 64 buffer, with quite a few decent plug ins. Before when it was a bit of a hodge podge it would just crackle with no plug ins at 64/96. It would run for hours at those settings too.

I tested AMD 5600 XT and NVIDIA 1660 Super, they both are working with low latency.
The main advantage of the AMD is the less bloated driver and the possibility to easy only install the driver

For NVIDIA, use NVSlimmer (current version is 0.9)
https://forums.guru3d.com/threads/nv...tility.423072/

BTW, do not forget to set "Power management mode" from Adaptive to Maximum Performance.

Those of you showing 0 page faults....do you have the paging file disabled? Set to a manual size? Ive not done that in Windows in forever....it depends on whats running and how long i leave it going....Lesha’s looks like he has iTunes running—that app jusy sits there generating page faults....but, even with nothing at a user lvel running, I get some on some svchost process....

I have set a fixed paging file. I don't use iTunes, but I left Kaspersky AV running.

To uninstall the current GPU driver always use DDU and
set it to reboot in safe mode to remove the driver.
https://www.wagnardsoft.com/

Updating nVidia drivers: Standard vs DCH drivers (I prefer the standard)
https://support.newtek.com/hc/en-us/...vs-DCH-drivers

NVIDIA Tweaks

The Basic workflow is:

- Disable Windows 10 Hibernate
- Disable HPET
- Use NVSlimmer to create a less bloated NVidia DRIVER
- Use DDU to uninstall the current driver
- Install the less bloated DRIVE trimmed by NVSlimmer
- Adjust BOTH NVIDIA and Windows power settings
- Make sure NVidia driver is using MSI

The main NVIDIA FIX
https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answ...um-performance

MSI(Message Signaled-Based Interrupts) utility V3
https://forums.guru3d.com/threads/wi...1#post-5826955

Here MSI for the Realtek audio and NVIDIA GPU was not enabled, the Realtek LAN was with set to HIGH priority.
Here it is not a server, it is now set to LOW!
I suspect for your DAW machines you may want to enable MSI for the GPU and set it to LOW priority.

NVSlimmer, good to create a debloated installation driver
https://forums.guru3d.com/threads/nv...tility.423072/

--------------------------------------------------------

AMD GPU Tweaks

Stuff you may want to disable

Or just install the driver

For AMD GPU 5500/5600/5700 series, do not disable.
At least not with the current drivers…

--------------------------------------------------------

Some Windows 10 tweaks

Set Windows Power Plan to "Ultimate".
(For AMD CPU it is different, more at AMD part bellow)
https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/...dows-10-a.html :tu:

Disable Windows 10 Hibernate
https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/...dows-10-a.html

Some good stuff:

--------------------------------------------------------

Tweaks for CPU AMD Ryzen 3000+

Use latest Windows 10, *not* OLD builds...

Disable Windows 10 Hibernate
https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/...dows-10-a.html

Disable HPET
https://silicophilic.com/disabling-hpet-settings/
From Search, enter cmd and select Open as administrator.
Type the following commands to disable HPET
bcdedit /deletevalue useplatformclock
bcdedit /set disabledynamictick yes

Restart the PC for the changes to take place.

After installing AMD Chipset Drivers
https://www.amd.com/en/support/chips...ocket-am4/x570

In the motherboard BIOS:
- Spread Spectrum Control = Disabled
- PCIe = GEN3 (less bugs and more silent chipset fan)
- Global C-state Control = Enabled
- Power Supply Idle Control = Low Current Idle(if you have a new power supply unit)
- CPPC = Enabled
- CPPC Preferred Cores = Enabled
- AMD Cool'n'Quiet = Enabled
- PPC Adjustment = PState 0
- ErP = Disabled
- PBO = Disabled (initially I keep it disabled)
https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comment...is_suggestion/

Now play with the machine and if all is OK can set the CPU CLOCK RATIO
to a fixed value to keep it locked at higher speed, lest say the
BLK = 100MHz with CPU CLOCK RATIO = 42 will get 4200MHz in all CPU cores.
Attention, max temperature for the CPU 24/7 is 75° Celsius or 167 °Fahrenheit, NOT MORE!

Doesn't seem so cut and dry. I'd advise people to bench their setup before and after to decide what works, along with tuning their BIOS.

I found that some manufacturers actually have more recent drivers than what AMD shows on their pages. Probably worth adding a note about that in your summary post .

Good advice, in the case of HPET, I haven't seen anything (audio/game) that works better with HPET enabled...

Manufacturer(Asus/ASRock/MSI/Gigabyte) usually have older driver versions...
In the case for AMD, what is important is what is inside the package, the
manufacturer may have a package with different date or different version
number, but what is inside?

This. Disabling HPET is not advisable now, as it was some years ago. Also, my system is stable with Spread Spectrum enabled, while I had some black screens with it disabled. Your results may vary.

Regarding chipset drivers, all I'm saying is that it's worth checking out the OEM's website, just in case
Drivers from Gigabyte for the B550 Vision D: 2.07.21.306, released on the 11th of August.
On AMD's site: 2.07.14.327 21st of July

The drivers are the same, but the Gigabyte version seems to have drivers for Windows 7.

Well, the package is still made by AMD, but this time, somehow, they've made a release where they only added some extra drivers for Win7. Strange.
