Motu Ultralite mk4?

They sent me a second ultralite mk4 replacement unit- still having issues.

Then they sent me a beta driver to test out, still having issues.

not sure what to do at this point.

The frequency is so random. Sometimes it's fine for a coupled days, then it does it all the time.

There's another totally bizaare problem. When unplugging the soundcard from my computer, (2017 macbook pro), it kills all other USB functionality on the computer. touchbar, facetime camera, and all other USB devices die. Restarting computer restores it. The soundcard is the only device that does this on disconnect. It happened with both ultralite mk4s and multiple macbook pros.

I initially talked to Apple about the USB problem before I realized it was only the soundcard doing that. They replaced the logic board and top case twice, then replaced my computer. It happened on the new one and it happens on my friend's macbook pro too.

Don't know what factors are causing the audio and USB issues to occur and what exactly is the culprit but I think i'm just gonna ditch the ultralite at this point because nobody can seem to fix it and I don't wanna spend any more time on this

Will be shooting out the DAC against my Duet 2 very soon now.
Any news regarding Duet 2 vs Motu UL MK4? I'm mainly interested in whether there are differences in the DAC, both devices have ESS Sabre DACs and their websites both claim a DR of 123db on the monitor outs ...
I still have Duet 2 IOS and appreciate the sound but would love to have SPDIF in/out..(and the possibility to connect a second pair of monitors would be great)
Thanks!

Go for the UL MK4. DAC is just as good and the latency is lower, with the interface operating much more stable at lower buffers.

I couldn’t be happier with it.

And lower latency is always welcome

Is anyone successfully using a MOTU Ultralite Mk4 with a recent MacBook Pro running Mojave? My UL mk4 is also randomly dropping output, be it Ableton or iTunes. This is already my second unit! Does anyone have good news that could help me before I abondon MOTU?

Edit: my previous MUTO Ultralite Mk3 worked without issue with Mojave, making this all the more frustrating.

Did you get your issues sorted out with your Mk4? I've had the same issue, intermittently, on my Windows 10 desktop that I built a few years ago. A sweetwater tech helped me sort it out shortly after I bought it, but the problem has started to creep back recently, for the first time in months -- though currently not as bad as when I first got it.

I finally gave in and ordered a new computer to dedicate entirely to music, one of the top tier 2018 Mac Mini configurations. Was thinking my problem might be an issue with my bloated & aging windows install, or possibly due to using it on a general purpose computer with a couple dozen TB of internal storage (only 256gb SSD for boot drive, rest mechanical) + SLI ... Discouraging to hear this seems to be a more widespread problem than I thought, popping up on macs too.

Hope you got the issue taken care of, yourself or by Motu. I've already had to replace my Ultralite once - though the first was for an unrelated catastrophe , busted headphone jack that was my fault. I'll post if I have any problems/or find solutions after the mac is delivered.

Best of luck to you.

I finally got around to making a review for this unit.

https://adriangin.wordpress.com/2019...te-mk4-review/

Overall it's very powerful, however a few compromises needed to be made to squeeze it all in. Mainly power supply and lack of knobs.

Thanks for this, however the link to WDM fix doesn't work. Could you re-up it please?

Thanks.

Thanks, I have updated it.

If that doesn't work try this:

Are there any UL MK4 owners that can answer this question for me?

I have a unique requirement and I need to have two sets of SPDIF running (2 stereo pairs) and it looks like the MOTU can physically do this over its optical and electrical outputs. I'm not sure if the driver/mixer will let you do this though.

I want to make sure I can set the optical to SPDIF and run it at the same time as the electrical SPDIF, making 2x 2ch digital outs.

Does anyone know if that is possible? I can't tell from the manuals.

I thought I could do this on my Focusright, which has both optical and electrical digital outs. But when I turn the optical into SPDIF mode it disables the electrical SPDIF out leaving with only 1 working 2ch SPDIF out.

Electrical outputs?

Electrical SPD/iF??

What da Fuq?

You talking about those pointy little caps you put over the top? Like when Mac had SPD/if?

You talking about RCA SPD/iF?

At any rate, if I understand you correctly, go to the electronics store and spend $30 on a SPD/iF to Optical converter.

Your system will only clock to optical OR SPD/iF not both, so you have to convert the format down or upstream.
