Thoughts on Kush Products? or save for ELI AROUSOR?

Labor Day sales abound...

Kush is having a sale - i blew it with their demo (my error).

About to demo the Empirical Lab's AROUSOR.

anyone have experience or opinions on either?

character compressors are my current frenzy.

i really like u-He PressWerk (own it).

any input appreciated.

All 3 are great plugins.

Kush makes great plugins. I own the UBK1 and Deflector and use them both.

I also own U-He's Presswerk as it is a great colorful compressor.
Most colorful of the 3.

I tried the Arouser and thought it was a great compressor.
Very cool options!
Not enough for me to buy it for that price.
For most, it's worth it for that and sure I can see that too.
Just not for me. Call me cheap which I'am.
Also, I know Slate has a Distressor plugin coming out
and if it's great, I may buy that as it will only be $149.

You can always ask UBK to demo theirs again as they can do that for you.
I've done that on a few plugins I was looking to purchase.

UBK-1 is my favourite compressor.
I love especially on drums / percussion how it can impart a nicer groove.
I find it easier to do this with UBK-1 than anything else.

Not demoed Arouser, bit expensive for me.

Try asking Kush for reset of demo, shouldn't be a thing.

interesting about the DEFLECTOR -

UBK/Sly-Fi not Kush?

demos for those - look pretty sweet.

Sly-Fi - Darker. Warmer. Digital.

Yes same man behind the companies. Sly fi digital is a branch off Kush Audio/ UBK/ like a nice little equilateral triangle. Branch, triangle, Kush, wait this is GS right

This is correct but to add to it, Sly-Fi is Greg emulating hardware and making better.
UBK is all about either his hardware emu's or a new type of plugin not on the market.

Both of them are my most used compressors.

UBK1 is great for adding movement and extra dynamic touches. It can emulate a good few compressor types too, opto, vca, fet, then the two last modes, squish is great for dirty but dynamic drums. That's just the middle knob too. I will add the mode selector changes the effect of the other two knobs too though.

Deflector is great, it can do huge amounts of GR without deteriorating the source, it can be really fast too, like an Elysia comp, really fast. I wouldn't call it transparent in tone though. The THD knobs are great though It'[s great on complex fast moving synth sounds.

Electra and Axis are both great too. Axis is a classic API eq on steroids, with a really nice saturation/distortion effect you can dial in. Electra is based on API curves too but it's a different effect, try it for yourself, it used 3-4x the cpu of Axis, but it's worth it.

I love Kush plugins and you can't go wrong with Arousor.
Then only thing is that Kush plugs will give you more bang for buck.
While I do enjoy Arousor after I demoed it I don't think it will be on every project.

On the other hand I can't seem to remember not going for Electra or Clariphonic in the past projects since I purchased the plugins.
Pusher gets used sparingly, but I love to have that kind of interesting distortion color. You can get really interesting hybrid digi-analog kind of distortion that I can't seem to replicate with anything else.

When Kush audio first came out with the UBK-1 in partnership with Wave Dist it was about $299
Now same story repeats with Arousor.. same high price... same Wave Dist partnership.

The difference is that when Gregory saw the potential for a mass market he embraced it and sliced it in half.

Now a couple of years later I own everything from Kush (besides UBK-1 ironically) and I bought it all for about $299

And not a single Wave post in UBK's new plugin release. Go figure.

So wait it out is my advice as Arousor is indeed a really nice plugin.

EDITED As I don't want to be misunderstood:
I think like in the UBK-1 case, the costs of developing were high so they are entitled to see first if there is a market and recoup the costs. High price means high production costs and a lot of confidence in their results.
Arousor is in my top to buy plugins but for what I need right now I can afford to wait it out, even if this means using more tools to get close to its sound. So until they are able to afford to drop the price I'm a-ok to wait it out.

Top Notch

Kush and Sly-Fi are top notch plugs for sure. Tons of attitude and character.
It's amazing to me how UBK Fatso like the UBK-1 is. UBK-1 is kind of like an extension of a UBK Fatso imo. Love Axis. Clairphonic is very cool.
Deflector is cool but since got Arouser I don't use it much.

How did the UBK-1 stack up against the Arouser? Anything I should listen for?

It's way to expensive imo. I'm demoing it and think it sounds nice but not worth the asking price. I'm waiting untill it hopefully comes on special sale.
