Nice Trick: Shifting the Formants of Drums

I had not thought of doing this until I saw this video. Shifting the formant of drums (instead of just shifting their pitch or transposing them) opens up new possibilities in sound shaping. Pretty cool. This video shows Reason 9, but obviously you could do it with any similar software.

Really interesting idea. I never thought of doing that, yet I always do a bit of pitch shifting (especially on snares.) I think there's an easier way in logic, though. I forget the name, but I think I remember some stock vocal insert that lets you change formant independently. Not sure about quality vs other methods.

Might help add/reduce bite for some electronic hats too. I'll have to try it.
