I use a V-kit with BFD 2 and 3 and have no complaints. Can take some time setting it up depending what drum and what library, but once set up properly together with the module and the pads it can be very rewarding and "authentic".

Heres a tune played live on the v-drums triggering BFD2 with a mix of drums from platinum samples. Not your mentioned style but could give you an idea.

Also worth noting are DrumDrops.

Like the drum sound on this clip. Might have to give BFD a re-visit at some point!

Im surprised that more people aren't suggesting it, but personally, i find addictive drums 2 to be really good sounding. I have stopped using superior drummer 2 completely, since i got addictive drums. Mostly i just find the sounds in there more interesting than in SD. But as with any digital drums, if you want realism (and not sound too generic), you need to fiddle around a bit. For me, it's less time with addictive.

i like AD2. it needs a little taming for my use.

just tried the EZDrummer demo. Superior Drummer coming next week.

i won't rest until i've tried them all.

i keep snapping back to BFD3, though.

i'm a 3D CAD mechanical design/engineer by day (Pro/Engineer [Creo], SolidWorks).

so,

the UI and workflow speaks to me more with BFD3.
AD2, SSD4, and SD2 are a bit on the cartoony side.

and the BFD3 Drum Drops kits are really great for the price.

all are amazing tools.

Thanks, it takes a bit of tweaking so the exclusive fades (especially ride) are set up to behave as naturally as possible.
The drum sounds themselves come from Platinum Samples, and are a mix of kit pieces recorded by two of the giants, namely Joe Barresi and Jim Scott.

They are very different and I like them both.
I think Jim Scott nailed the cymbals and snares and Joe nailed the kicks and toms. At least thats how I usually end up using them. Remove some of the room mic's signal as they are recorded differently and it works fine imo.
With that said, the complete Chad Smith kit (from Jim Scott) is absolutely first class, both to listen to and to play with e-drums, highly recommended.

Both are good. In the end I think it comes down to what style you want.
