Pops appearing in audio files

Was wondering if anyone might have some advice/experience.

I am startting to get digital pops/glitches appearing in audio files. it's not a clocking or recording issue. However randomly pops will appear in audio files. One minute, no problem at all with the files. The next minute there will be random pops in the audio file.

I suspect maybe it could be hard drive related and somehow the hard drive is maybe corrupting the files? ANd one factor that makes me think this is once while importing audio files into a session while copying files to the hard drive in the background, I would get a large amount of digital glitches in the imported audio files. When I tried it again after the transfers in the background were done, no problems.

is there any way to test and find the cause of the problem?
