PS - I use a DI to double the signal... I track one LIVE with amp sim and the other as a DI (just in case I need to reamp) but that is just my workflow style not saying this would be good for everybody.
I record my guys a few different ways depending on their preference... Some need to play through own rack/cabs and if so, I'll kick those, but I'll also get a DI signal... Some guys are fine with going direct and playing through a sin... So, I'm really only recording a di'd signal...

Later, I may decide I want a different tone... That's where the sims really shine for me. If I can't get it there (which is becoming pretty rare) I can reamp into a real amp and mix that.
