How to stop lagging?

I recently started to revamp my studio. For the longest time I was using Cubase 5, but before anything went into Cubase I recorded everything into my track recorder (tracking each instrument & part separately.)

It all started with me wanting to be able to simultaneously sequence and record all my instruments/tracks and ended-up with me acquiring Tracktion 5 and Live 8 Lite.

For the life of me I cannot reduce (let alone dismiss completely) the lagging in Live 8 Lite. Any suggestions?
I'm running Windows 8 on an HP 2000.

I am in the midst of trying to figure out which of the three DAWs I want to use, but the whole process is mad frustrating and time consuming.

It's because I installed a 64bit program on a 32bit system.

a 64 bit app will not even run on a 32 bit OS unless you have an emulator
