i feel quite worthless at piecing together a computer

Let me start off by saying I'm running a 3 year old emachines with an amd athlon xp 3000+ and 512m memory. i can't complain, it still works fine and has never even hiccuped on me. Its a little noisy.. ok its really noisy. I need to be able to record 16 tracks now and my trackcounts for mixing are getting bigger and I'm getting into drum samplers and I'm just worried about its dependability since its so old.

So, its time for a new PC! I'm not looking to spend a ton right now, I'm mostly wanting to build something reliable for under $700 or so that I know inside and out. I know this means I won't get the latest technology.. and I'm kind of glad about that. I buy most of my gear used, used cars, wait for movies to come on cable, etc. I'm not a huge fan of being a guinea pig.

I feel like a dork for using all newegg products, but can you guys see any problem with what I'm getting here (or give better suggestions??)

newegg rox! if i were u i wouldnt get that barebones thing tho.. theres no agp slot and it only has 2 pci slots.. very little room for expansion. u could find a case and mobo for cheaper anyways. go to that processors page.. theres a combo that doesnt look too bad. but im sure u can get a cheaper mobo.

fair enough. i liked it because it was small, and i was getting overwhelmed choosing motherboards and cpus and cases...
plus, i know if i end up buying the case myself i'll get a huge ******** rackmounted one and its gonna be full of fans and loud as hell.

so no agp means i wouldn't be able to put my own video card in it? thanks for telling me that, i had no idea.

well,,, there are pci vid cards but i dunno, i wouldnt get one and that mobo only has 2 pci slots so u would be takin up a possible audio interface slot.. it seems as if everything is goin pci express anyways. about that rackmount case.. im kinda wantin one myself. anyways, i got 2 monitors and will never go back so i would highly reccomend gettin somethin u can put a video card in..

trey...
please clarify...are you saying you cant record 16 tracks on your amd now
that you have ?? if so ..something is amiss.
please clarify.
are you recording at 44.1/16 or 24 bit ??
cos i can get 40 tracks plus about 20 low cpu consuming plug ins on a similar system.
if you cant do 16 tracks.....please give some detail bout your hard drives.
