USB Hub to Thunderbolt? USB Hub?

I have a 2011 macbook pro with only 2 USB ports. I currently allocate 1 to the Zen Studio and another to Maschine. I need more USB ports for synths/controllers etc. I have a few of questions:

1. Would it make sense to utilize the thunderbolt port by using it with a usb hub/adapter combo?

2. Is there a way to use a usb hub that will allow Maschine (and other finicky synths) to run without getting glitchy? When I plug it into a usb hub, it becomes quite sketchy.

3. Any hub recommendations?

Thanks!

They sell thunderbolt hubs so yes if you want to use a thunderbolt port to add more USB ports. You'll end up getting other ports as well but they make them.
