This Gainstation plugin sounds great, I'm glad there's multiple distortion options. Even the boost plugin sounds great. And on the tutorial video it sounds good on the 808s as well. The pultec eq is not bad, I prefer the highs on the P1 and the PUN though, I'll just combine the two.
The main critique I have of the Gainstation plugin is that after applying the distortion and pre amps it doesn't really warm up the sound like Crimson does. It still feels kind of cold. It's probably just the track I'm working on. I think this plugin is more suited for Rap/hip-hop (hence Mike Dean). But the boost plugin I was able to use on one of my stems.
The biggest thing that confuses me is that Studio DMI's plugins all sound tonally the same even though they sample different hardware. They all have a sort of neutral sound that lacks hardware warmth and texture. But when Acustica samples different hardware, we get a lot of different tones and textures. I'm not sure why that happens. Regardless, these plugins sound great.
Personally I found Ivory to be more useful when I need to "master" something (like an instrumental that isn't tracked out) while Erin seems better on the mixing side.
This is just my limited experience so far with them. I'm sure that they can shine in both applications.
I concur, Ivory is unique in that it sounds incredibly smooth and natural and beautiful. Almost always works for mastering anything. I love that thing.
I was super skeptical about gainstation but I put it up against phil's cascade and vsc-2 and ... I bought it. It doesn't bring a lot more to the table than these 2 but it does have a more dynamic 'feel' that I like. I wish there was control over the 2nd and 3rd harmonics like in vsc-2 but that's what I'll use vsc-2 for. And the cpu hit is pretty good.
Trying to limit myself to just one today despite the very tempting prices and having a hard time making my mind up between Erin and Ivory. Any suggestions?
Thank you all for making a very strong case for getting both lol
Is it ok to link to KVR? I have Cobalt, Sand 3, Taupe and White 2 listed there. Please feel free to contact me through here or there if you are interested.
Awesome plugins, they are just not for me anymore. I am keeping all my other Acquas (a LOT of them) and I'm going to pick up a couple more in the BF sales.
Mods, please delete this or let me know if I am not supposed to do this.
QUESTION: for someone who hasn’t experienced the AA Hype before..... what channel strip or compressor is the first one you’d recommend that you think is undeniably amazing????
I put this together about a year ago, it may be of use...
Whelp... demoing the new Gainstage tools. Good thing I have Gainmatch from Letimix. I found out about this somewhere recently and picked it up. I love tools like this because I am constantly A/Bing as I work. It works great with Gainstage to provide auto gain matching pre/post. Gainmatch was recently updated with more great features. I just watched their update video. It's only $9 but going out to $19 in 2021. Well worth it at either price. Check it out... really useful (to me) when working with Acquas...

I set up a single send buss with Gainstation on it running quite hot and utilising the clipping - and send through any drum elements and bass synths/loops etc for quick and easy background boosting to blend into the mix.
Some nice prices at acustica right now.
How is the viridian 2?
I really want a pye comp.
Choosing between that one and a UAD plugin. But the uad is so pricey. Right now it's 50-60% of and a coupon with additional 25£ but it's still more expensive than most other plugin.
Well well
Yup, for me Crimson is 20% more demanding than Gainstation.
I'm kinda bias right now because of how much Crimson has grown on me and the presets I've made to speed up my workflow, Im always rushing to get to the creative process of mixing lol
