No!!!!!!

Music is either liked or disliked by the listener.
Simple as that.
I'm not a fan of awards either (Brits, Grammys),

First event......how fast can you mic up a drum kit in a dark booth with only a lava lamp for illumination.

Event 2.....the 5 yard dash to intercept the drunk drummer before he spills a drink on the console. Judged on speed with points deducted for liquid spill.

Event 3.....how long you can hold your cool while the friend of the band tells you that he would do things differently. Timed until either teeth start to grit or "friend" is cold cocked, whichever occurs first.

I'm seeing an event that's a steeplechase, somehow to do with patchbays...

Music is an art,you cant compete for this.
But you can put drummers blasting double kick at the faster bmps and guitar players shedding notes per minute.
But this is nothing has to do with music!

There actually used to be poetry in the olympics until relatively recently. Official, medal winning.

How about Rock N Roll Hall of fame?
What was your favorite or less favorite Grammy moment?
Mine (when I used to watch Grammys) was when Jethro Tull won the Heavy Metal award for their Crest of the Knave album which prompted Ian Anderson to say that the "Flute is a piece of heavy metal"!
And those two Milli Vanilli blokes who won a Grammy for Lip synching...
Anyway, I will create a separate thread for artists who should have made it a long time ago into the RNRHOF.

At first and second and third thought--no

curiosity: what type of event do you envision?
I can't seem to dream up anything that makes sense in the traditional "Olympic" setting... (or anything resembling even a loose description that could be mistaken for such)

I dunno I just threw out something to see if anyone had ideas, bcoz so many of them are wondering what the next best thing is that needs to happen to music and I didn't think American Idol, Britain's got talent etc were doing much justice to music.
I was probably thinking of a world stage where you had about a mix of 60 new or veteran musicians/bands on stage competing in 15 different pools (taking their turns of course) and the people vote on which band they want to stay and which one they wish to discard and the winner gets the Gold!

It would just degenerate into the same tired joke... "Even if you win, you're still a musician!"

Unfortunately "Club Swinging" ended as a regular event in 1932.

Not my Jam.

"competitions" such as DJMag, Grammies etc are just a popularity contest. They don't have anything to do with the music and that's why they are completely redundant.
