Importance of Sound Scan reporting...

Hey guys,

With an upcoming release, I was curious as to how important slaes being reported to Soundscan is?

Judging by our last release, we plan to sell in the thousands. Do you have to sell your CDs and downloads through a site that automatically reports sales to Soundscan, or is there a way to have SOundscan track your UPC codes?

Thanks,
-Neil

Thanks for the link!

However, I still don't understand. Once you register your album with Soundscan and you give them a UPC code, do you (or a 3rd party) need to report sales, or do they track it on the web?

Thanks!

once you are registered, the retail sites report sales.

sorry, probably gave the wrong link, here's where you register your ISRC and UPC>
Register your ISRC code:

If, for instance, you're doing cash sales at a venue, i believe you need to report those yourself. I do believe there are fees and conditions:
