What Does TV Placement Pay?

Curious what a general compensation range is for placement on one of the many cable shows guys get music on. Assuming they are independent and own their mechanical and publishing rights.

How does the Sync market shake out is it cable, network, and commercials at the top of the pyramid for pay?

Ugg, there's different "levels" of pay with MANY variables involved in calculating what gets what.

Here, read this link to get an idea of the variables involved;

My friend was getting $16 a min (usually 30 seconds or less would actually be played) by MTV for basic filler stuff in shows. I know he got a better deal than most.

Every show is different. A lot of smaller cable shows have a music budget of $500 an episode. So there's not a lot you can make and usually those shows use music for free or use a library. Fancier cable shows may pay 2k or more per license but it's usually for the high profile shows.
