Smile Motu systems with Hybrid analog mixing.

Hello all....

Just wondering how many of you are running a hybrid recording mixing system?
What are your pitfalls and successes running a system like this?
I currently run all Motu.

2 24i/o 's and 6 2408 MK3's going into 2 424 pcie card's.
SSL duality console for summing. and large sessions.
various out board gear, patch bays etc.

I have found running a system like this is the best of both worlds!
I can run all tracks back into the console for the vibe and record back into DP
or run just sub groups of all tracks back in.

Interested in what you have going on!
Cheers!

Whatever works for you eh? I can't afford an SSL and I don't see much point summing through an old Mackie. Been recording since the 70s but now mix 100% in the box. Outside the box I spend a lot of time on source sounds and microphones.

I also do a lot of work at a friends studio. We still sum in the box but he's got a ton of great outboard gear that we use both for tracking and as inserts in mixdown.

I think a great deal of the answer to the question comes down to personal preference. Some like real faders under their fingers. I don't miss physical faders and I do most of my mixing with automation in the Sequence Editor.
