Korg Volca Modular Modular Synthesizers

I love this volca, really makes a difference from the rest. Super fun device to use.

One tip I discovered: If you want an instant 4/4 beat mixed with your actual sequence use the /4 output of the sequences module.

Maybe a bit obvious but its instant techno!

As I do not have a modular yet, I can't fab it up.

from the manual
whereas the right
channel (ring) of the input expects a 1V/octave signal (0–+6V) and
converts it to the volca modular’s internal pitch offset voltage control
signal. Connecting a 3.5mm mono patch cable to this jack will result in
the same signal being applied to the CV and Pitch Offset inputs.

As this CV is 0 to 6V, I wonder how the hoof you can tune it down.

Wonder what would happen with a negative voltage to Ring?

EDIT: When I get mine at the end of the month I will feed it negative voltage.
I have hacked my Monotribes and not blown out any of the 6 with CVs beyond Vcc.
Thanks for the help. I don't have a voltage source and a linear pot to try, but that wouldn't be a practical solution anyway, I think.

I'm not too concerned. For my application, I just need to sync it and trigger the internal sequences, not just trigger CV and gate, but I was curious if it would work. But I'm sure we'll find a solution. . . Maybe I should write to Korg and see if they have an answer.

Does the keybed on the Volca, or setting the root key have any effect?

That is, does the note set on the Volca transpose the CV?
Or the menu setting???
FUNC+STEP 2 (TONIC) Enter the tonic selection mode. Tonic selection
mode allows you to select the tonic for the currently selected scale, the
note on which the scale will start. While in tonic selection mode, tap the
step button corresponding to the desired tonic (see table). To exit tonic
selection mode, press the FUNC button again.

I always get the feeling that Luke would be happier with a workstation to demo, though I did appreciate that in one Youtube shop Volca FM demo he broke out the Knight Rider theme

I’m having a really hard time getting external CV to work. I’ve tried several devices - keystep, Euro modules, Korg SQ-1 - and I can get pitch to work only when using the black bubble output and not the one with the note next to it. I can’t get the other output to trigger the function generators. Shouldn’t it work this way? I’m using a TRS to two TS “headphone splitter” style cable to combine the two signals.

The Bubble is the CV from the keystep. The note icon is the note offset I believe.
Are you also sending a gate from the keystep?

I don't have the Volca Modular yet but summise pitch CV goes to the tip of the TRS
and a Gate from the Keystep triggers the LPG.

You'd need a 1/8" to bare wire adapter for this.

Again, speculation on my part.

From a popular Canadian vendor:

"Hi Mark! It looks like they're currently out of stock at the distributor, and it looks like the ETA to them would be the end of March."

Mine just showed up from Moog Audio. Their site still has it listed as a pre-order but my order shipped Tuesday. Would have had it yesterday were it not for the lousy weather.

Based on what you could do with the Electribes and other Volcas, I'd say it most likely can, but I've not had the Modular to try it for myself.

Mine was from L&M, the message.
I would be driving to London, Ontario from Sarnia, Ontario to
get mine at L&M there.

Odd that L&M told me about late March, meanwhilst
Moog Audio has them.

My Monotribes want to mate with the Korg Modular
to become the 2 voice Modu-Tribe!!!

Plan is:
2 MIDI monotribe set to drone with MIDI SOLUTIONS Event Processor
stripping the MIDI NOTE OFF message.

Then I would feed Monotribe 1 to LPG1 and Tribe2 to LPG2.
Then envelopes would be handled by the Modular.

Just have to wait I guess!

I can confirm they are available at Moog Audio (Toronto) if you walk into the store.

Which is exactly what I did earlier today!
(There's 2 left in stock not including the demo model)

Not sure why Long and McQuade got shorted on their order unless the Korg distributor screwed them over...

Not the first time I've heard of something like this. When the Karp Odyssey was the hot new thing people were waiting for months on end for their already-paid-for preorders from L&MQ. The Korg rep happened to be visiting a store (I wont mention which location) and asked if there was anything she could do for them (promos/demos/etc) and the store clerk said "Yeah, where the f*** are the Odysseys our customers have been waiting the last six months for?". Next day every outstanding order magically showed up. Never did find out what the actual problem was.

Unfortunately it’s not a seamaster. Just a vintage Seiko chronograph.
