Hard to follow some of these incredible rigs, but here is my modest and growing little setup as of today now that the PEG and QuantiZer arrived:

Just gorgeous, absolutely love it.

Since you’re obviously a fan of the Intellijel cases, any particular favorites in their 1U modules? Thinking about getting one (last...I know, I know) eurorack case for portability and making it a 7U 104HP Intellijel, so I’d be interested in feedback from someone with that many of their 1U lineup.

I really like my 4u case. Their smaller cases don't have leads for the input/output jacks, but look at the "Percussion skiff case" in my sig for what I've found to make a good 1u row.

Those are awesome. I only wish 4ms was still making their modular row cases,
those are about the only aluminum cases I would have a personal preference for
over the intellijel. Well KAHNCO maybe, if they would actually make and sell them.

The mdr.modular cases are aluminum as well, save for the 3D printed sides.
Cant go wrong with intellijel though

I have another 104 row of 1U that I was using with my 2U case. I'll probably fit a couple of those in at some point....pedal i/o, maybe noise tools.

Obviously the Audio i/o and uMIDI, as they connect to the external jacks.

The newest 7U case revision have more options for the audio board, giving separate in and out connections. So now you can hook a Mixup directly to the board outs (it will be unbalanced), and something like the Pedal i/o to the inputs (one will be send and one return). There is also soon to be individual in and out modules, so you can do a Mixup out, and an Audio in for the inputs. And the Pedal i/o have a very wide range and can not only handle pedals, but also rack FX and you could even use it as a mono out to an amp.

Big fan of the Quadratt....can be used as a voltage source, offset, or mixer. Great for combining positive/negative LFOs and Envelopes to get very complex modulation.

Zeroscope is nice if you don't have room for a Data or O'Tools. Clear enough for tuning and monitoring waveforms for offset, etc.

Octalinks are great for larger rigs so you don't need to use super long cables.

I have a Noise Tools, but don't really use it, as I have other noise sources. But if you need a basic clock, it has it, and also does slew as well as sample/hold. But I prefer the Mutable Kinks for noise and S&H, as it adds a rectifier and inverter.

I also have a Steppy that I'm not using right now. It's pretty cool once you get the hang of programming it, and does probability. You can also use it for clock division and swing.

And the USB is a good space filler (4hp).

They are solid on there own, but the new case joiners aren't as solid as the older ones that were screwed in. They aren't flimsy, but there is a little play that allows the top rack to wiggle a bit.

The newest revision also gives you access to individual ins and outs on the AUDIO i/o jacks for more internal connection options.

Hmm, you could probably have that fixed for very little at a good machine shop,
if it bugs you and you don't want to mess with it yourself. Just sayin as I've
done that a few times over the years for various items.

The way the new case joiners work, they slide into a slot with a locking mechanism on each case, and there is some play there. The joiner plates would have to be thicker, and you would be dealing with a very narrow tolerance in order for them to fit more snug.

Other than that, you could fabricate a support plate to screw into the case (like the old joiners), but that would defeat the purpose of quick disconnect.

:D

It it just now starting to feel real, because aside from full synths and voices and a few things that use CV, I finally have modules that do new things (plus I have a 9Ux114 case and power supply). These things are what make modular interesting:

(bought a Tempi today)

Looking forward to getting that LFO going, @ Derp .

I was considering a few "complex" sequencers such as the Eloquencer, as well as the Toolbox, Nerdseq, and Hermod, but felt they try to pack a little too much into such a limited UI. I ended up sticking with several more simple sequencers (Rene, Varigate, Octone) and do my heavy lifting running Ableton Live on a laptop into ES-5/ES-3/EXS-8CS.

Really digging the Rene 2, as you can sequence the Z access (states) as well as snake modes with another sequence, which results in some crazy patterns that I would not have come up with using traditional programing methods.

Heh, I can say that the Toolbox is really excellent for clocking the Rene' 2
Personally, I find having multiple complex sequencers pretty cool, as you
can use them on each other, combine or compare between them using logic or whatever.

*Of course, you can do that with simpler sequencers as well, although something like the Toolbox can take
the place of many of them, not only sequencers. Either method can be effective to be sure...

this is not so new but thought i'd share it anyway ,it's made of : Buchla 258 VCO's x 2 ,Electronotes thru Zero VCO ,Serge DUSG ,2 x simple LFO's ,Dual VCA ,NLC Neuron , Arp VCF ,Roland 100m Envelope ,Portamento ,mixer. (sadly the fellow that i built it for didn't want any S/H and Random generators .

They are definitely very cool. I haven’t even really got started with clip mode yet. That’s where they really bring a live type workflow.

You would probably need to make sure you plan for them a bit, they are power hungry and fully digital. No power draw on the -12v rail. Having heavy purely digital modules can cause digital break through, I guess.

I can run them without problems because they are on separate power supplies due to the skiffs. A similar isolated setup for them would be optimal.

*Something like that anyway. Best to keep them on their own power supply, essentially.
Together is fine.

Take a look at the ER-301 ... It'll do everything that you'd need three of those Bitbox's to do.

I will probably get the ER-301 eventually as well. I didn’t want to pay that much for it, pay import duty or wait for him to make it That’s not even considering the stuff to go with it.

Anyway, the bitbox isn’t really too far behind as I understand. It’s alsosupposed to be better at the MPC type stuff. *shrugs

Depends what you’re after I guess. The ER-301 is a better sampler. The bitbox operates as 3 separate units via firmware which I like. Particularly the wavetable synth.

The ER301 is good at granular too, which is a big plus. Bitbox sucks for that currently.

Clearly different goals for each. For the complex programmable sound computer, get the ER-301. For ableton style clip launching and sampling. Get the Bitbox.

Finally, enough pieces to make some proper bleeps and bloops (and growing by the week, with a few more already bought and incoming):

Neat, so you just combined the modules beneath a custom panel? That looks pretty cool. I’d be interested to hear it in action.

here are some patches on it ,no sequencer in this so little abstract and yes it's custom single panel , which i avoid now as wiring a single panel is lot more pain then individual modules ,i built more single panel synths for friends and folks .

Awesome! That's really cool, thanks for sharing. I didn't realize people
were making this kind of synth. It's really clever, creative and inspirational.

I find the DIY thing incredibly fascinating, and this definitely is something
to aspire to. I imagine it's great to be able to make whatever you want!
That takes the whole modular thing to the next level.

Have you seen that custom one @ j3rk made, with the blue details? If it was a woman I'd marry it.

Incredible aesthetics, killer sound, unique/custom combinations, all in one 007-ish cool case.
