It's so tempting to get an MPC X and try that route, but I'm scared to since the MPC 5000 ended up having such a crippled operating system. Don't know if I trust Nukailesis to not screw it up.

I understand the concern, and I have been warned by others, but I could not help myself

Yes I think in the future am I be more and more tempted by the MPC X because I would like to record quick loops off the modular and make some track on the fly, record loop move on, record loop move on, etc... but I don't like doing that with a computer.

Yes, that is exactly what I am doing. I spent most of last night just going through some of my favorite settings in my euroracked Moog Minitaur. Just wanted to see if I could record some of the slight filter sweeps in a few of my 'mid tone' bass lines and then chop them up quickly and make something that I would not mind listening too for a couple of hours and I felt like I actually was making progress. Usually I just write down what I was doing and come back the next day, but now I am actually recording more.

The Cirklon is lookin a little jealous up there on the top row.

I've been loving the MPC/modular set up although I'm only using Live + Yarns. One thing I noticed that is starting to come back from my heavy ITB days is project paralysis where I save every tiny thing that I start. Then I get greeted with dozens of half finished projects when I boot up. I probably just need to do some virtual house cleaning. One thing about using really basic sequencing is that it forces you to commit or overwrite one of those precious save slots.

Me and joe building a wee modular rack into a wall for a friend of ours.

It’s even bigger than that now.

A few weeks later we had to build some custom add-on racks. He’d filled up all the space in the main rack.

@Nuisance
what are you using for PSU?
Old 3 weeks ago
  #463
It has a mix of Doepfer (torroid) and Meanwell (SMPS) PSUs plus a mix of Doepfer hard bus boards and flying bus cables

The Doepfer two rail PSUs have 5v regulators on the bus rail and the Meanwell is a dedicated 3 voltage rail PSU.

There are about 18 PSUs in there and it gives off quite a bit of heat.

Overall it is quiet and stable, but as always there are one or two badly made modules that are noisy no matter what PSU or signal grounding they have.

All output lines to the SSL are actively balanced at the modular end by a 16 way line balancing unit.

same here, although i'm still waiting for AKAI to iron out all bubbles/bumps to jump on the wagon (i have a MPC4000 already)

maybe some other manufacturer will come with a better offer since...

(those warp algoritms & sample edit/mod possibilities on the X/Live really suck)

anyway, pass me the modular chariot :

Here's my little sonic playground. I've been rocking this setup since March this year when I pulled the trigger on the MPC Live.
