FCS MSP-02 custom analog Mid/Side processor

This just in from Roger Foote...

FCS MSP-02 analog mid/side processor. This is a variation of an earlier design that can be found on this thread:

https://www.gearslutz.com/board/high-...side+processor

The main change from the msp-01 is that I requested custom values assigned to a rotary switch for the variable level control of the mid and side.

The degree of monitoring control this unit affords is quite comprehensive. It proves to be a very useful tool for independently processing the sum and difference in the analog domain. The ability to solo/monitor the sum or difference either pre or post of the analog insert (in my case, an EQ) is very handy. Thanks again to Roger Foote, for delivering yet another solid custom tool!

That looks great. I kind of wish it had a basic stereo input and output gain, but I realize that would add to the cost.

Hi,

What Levi said, rotaries are Elma type 04 and the PB switches are NKK industrial PB switches.

The price on these is $2,900.00 USD + shipping

Best regards,
Roger Foote

Thanks Radiance!

I wanted to add that the unit normally ships with Elma 21mm collet knobs.
The black metal knobs that Levi has were special order. Add $20 for those.

Best
Roger

I think that I mentioned this on the old MS box thread, but the core circuit design was done by Wayne Kirkwood. Wayne is an accomplished audio engineering guy who works/ has worked with the likes of THAT Corp, MicMix, SSL etc.

A brilliant designer!

The MS circuit is also available as a DIY project

I did the PCB layout for the DIY MS project, btw.

Wouldn't muting the side be the same thing as soloing the mid post insert?

Hi,
Actually, no... I can see why that would seem true though.

When you mute M or S and you are not in solo mode it is after the decoder and it's related gain correction.

Solo is for listening to your insert only, pre and post insert but solo is taken pre decoder for adjusting the devices attached to the insert I/O..

Best
Roger

Edit:
When I put in your handle, it adds an emoticon related to the first three letters of your handle, ayson
Funny...
