For all you headed to Camp Tape Op this weekend...stop by the booth and check it out! For the rest of you...the one and only picture of the Mastering EQ in known existance...
Man! ...mine is a blurry and crap. I was feeling like a badass for leaking the first picture...
Back to the point. The frequencies have been altered for a wider range, the gain switched are detented in .5dB steps up to +-3dB, then in 1dB steps to +-9. A "Link" switch has been added that links the right channel to the controls for the left, with the exception of the gain cut or boost controls, which have to be manipulated seperately. The same input level manipulation (+8 to -20dB), and the unbalanced patch point are still available for interfacing with various types of gear and the ever popular MP-2NV pre amp, making this the most dangerous piece of gear on the planet...user beware!
and - as compared to the EQ2-NV - my understanding is that .... (a pal told me that he was told) .... it does have smoother sounding input transformers.... that it will street for about $4,100....... but don't quote me.
$4,100 for a fully detented mastering EQ of this quality seems pretty good, doesn't it?
Would love to hear Dan's views on how the MAQ differs in tone from the EQ2.
The spec changes are pretty much everything I dreamt of when I had an EQ2 for a couple of weeks, but I'm interested to know what effect he feels the new transformers and amp modifications have had.
Rumor has it one is mkaing it's way down to Memphis, and as long as it's not coming via barge it should be here (relatively) soon...
You have me (in part) to thank for that. It was coming here first (then to you) but I'm going on vacation this Friday with the kids so I gave up my place in line. But I'll be ringing you as soon as I get back. Count on it.
Wait a sec. Actually I'll be driving through Memphis on the way back from vacation. Hmmm. I might just land on your doorstep.
so..... i'll ask again....has anyone heard the MAQ-NV yet?
Yah, played with it over the last week. It's a nice EQ - not too transparent, not too colored. The HP filters are great and I was surprised at how easy I could either do surgical or broad work. Bottom end is very nice and the top end passed my +3db @ 10kHz test with ease, nice open top.
Need more time to play with it, but so far it's a winner.
