New Website

After more than 8 years, our old site was starting to look pretty dated. So we made a new one:

http://www.24-96.com

It's a bit vain to assume interest, but it has pretty pictures and everything, so have a look
If anyone has any thoughts or criticism, I'd be very interested to hear it!

Website is looking very good, very fine looking.

"Starving musicians" rate sounds a little condescending to me especially when the actual rate is 2 - 3
times the food shopping bill of an individual for a week.

It's humour

So far, the term has actually gotten very good feedback. I kinda think the humorous term lightens up what could with a different wording be conceived as condescending (how is "unsigned hobbyist band rate"?). Thanks for raising the concern / letting me know though; it's good to hear & be aware how things are perceived from different perspectives.

I was disappointed not to see a picture of your good self in swimwear on the site, apart from that minor niggle it looks great.

I felt a bit of a pang when I saw the VMS-80 - we used to be so in love back in the day.

Now what's this custom clipper limiter matrix malarky, do tell.

I just think it's very perculiar to charge different rates for identical service.

But the site looks very good.

Sure it is meant to be constructive, you are high in my mind of GS board members Robin.

I agree with you that transparent pricing is a good thing, so I should probably share the reasoning behind the discount.

The "starving musician rate" originated as a 19% discount for those that have to pay 19% VAT (sales tax) but can't get it back. Contrary to the idea of VAT as a consumption tax, self financed musicians (that show up at my place) usually aren't consuming a service for hobby or vanity, but are investing into their (future) business. I always thought it's a bit messed up that the young musician starting out pays a hefty tax that a signed artist does not. So I decided to equalize the price between businesses and privately financed clients by offering to pay the VAT for them, so that they are in fact - after tax - paying the same amount of money for the same service.

Hope that makes it more transparent. Maybe I should put that in the FAQs of my web site too

Nice site.

My only suggestion is about your background photos... the file sizes are a little large. Re-saving at a lower jpeg quality in Photoshop (maybe a setting of 4 or 5) will make them about half the size without any apparent loss of quality. Your site's dissolve effect will be much smoother.
