HELP!! MASTERING help PLEASE!!!!

I can't seem to get my rock mixes loud.

Im using t-racks followed by L2 in pro tools hd

Can people tell me there L2 settings. I don't really have a handle on all the extra noise shaping stuff etc....

Should i be using the L2 after t-racks yes no

What about the t-racks clipper. Should it be lighting red????

I have been bouncing the mixes with the master channel not clipping. I bounce to 16 bit. Then bring these files back into a session for mastering.

I have read that people will send there mixes out there gear then bring them back in and print them. When you do this do you still bounce them to 16bit. Im not really up on the dithering thing.

Sorry for the rambling just a lot of questions. Any help is appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You're Mastering? You're making a Glass Master?
What does the room and monitors sound like? Are they full range?
Are you using the Waves L2 Hardware?
Dithering should be placed in your last insert spot on the Master Fader
Dithering should be done LAST... AFTER PRE-MASTERING
Nothing should be in the RED.. if anything, nothing should be even near 0!

Regards,

Don't take this the wrong way - but - you clearly don't know what you are doing... so HIRE A GOOD MASTERING ENGINEER.

Do the mixes have the potential to *be* loud?

Many don't...

Better to post your mixes on the mp3 forum and get feedback there. Improve the mixing.

You cant just run anything into a limiter and have it work, there would be no MEs were it that easy.

Go read page 14 of March 2006 MIX magazine and then send your stuff to a mastering house

It sounds like this is stressing you I would concentrate on mixing and send it to a professional mastering engineer who pays his rent from mastering.
