When someone gets juicy new gear, they naturally want to brag about it.

Experience and technique are harder to describe via Internet without interactive real time audio.

So I think it's just the nature of Internet forums in general, lots of opinions & posturing, newbies looking for a quick fix, word games, etc...

so true.

I get the impression that if we were all in a pub, we'd firstly be talking about drinking, secondly be talking about great music and elements of sound/things that inspire us, and the thirdly about how we have achieved/think the above has been achieved.

This said, I do meet every few days with me local engineer friends, and we do talk about CDrs...sometimes.

Mod, if I...

Let us not forget how few pieces at TML are stock. I think Sunny said it was, like, one (EAR eq). Everything else is either custom build or modified (including the ATC 5.1 monitors) for Doug by his E. E. brother, Sherwood. So, there's not much point advertising gear in a state of the art facility, since the gear there would literally be "unobtanium" to any one else. Sure, you can buy a Dom II, but it won't have DC's audiophile mods that make it transparent enough for competitive mastering shootouts.

Advertising one's off-the-shelf equipment is a good way to prove that you are not top notch. Sorry.

Much better to show a blurry action picture of the ME as s/he haunts the console. Nothing should be very name-brand identifiable, gear-wise, except that everything in the room looks ship-shape and the web site looks pro.

Who wants to advertise that he has an off-the-shelf quadratic diffusor from Sweetwater?

That's gonna look pretty lame next to George Massenberg's stick room at Blackbird...
