By the way, i was completely joking, hence the blinking one eye'd icon...it's a gearslutz thing. But I'll delete mine so you don't feel singled out.

I learned some time ago to always at least try L2. It still beats the others a surprising amount of the time (especially at 96k) and sets a useful benchmark to match while eliminating its colorations with another limiter. Another contender available to Samplitude users is sMax 11.

Here for the gear
Mastering/Mixing Limiters

Two limiters which are not listed and are extremely useful in mixing and mastering are PSP Vintage Warmer and IK Multimedia Clipper.

Vintage Warmer has a limiter section and has a tape/analog clipping style limiting which is very musical. I don't see this plugin being used as the last limiter in the chain, but it does a great job at reducing dynamic range and adding analog character.

The Clipper is also an awesome plugin and can be used in creative ways for mixing and mastering. For mastering it can be used before your last limiter to achieve a bit more loudness without overloading your last limiter. It can also add some desirable distortion.

On my recent projects, limiting has not been a big part of the workflow (nor should I even be posting in the mastering forum - oops), so it's not something I have spent much time thinking about, but when I do it, it's these two - pro-L and No.9 - and if I want something quick and loud (for instance, to send to an artist to ask a specific question about a song), then both - pro-L up to about -11 RMS and No. 9 for a few more dB after that. Not easy on the CPU, but quick and dirty

Talking about limiting, I loaded up a commercial track from a popular pop artist and analyzed it with a loudness meter. As you can see in the pic below , it peaks at +1db. Isnt this digital distortion? The album is the list of the best sounding albums . Is it ok to go above 0db ? See pic below

ISPs, look them up. It's unfortunately "normal" these days. They can sound bad on some consumer level DACs.
