hardware plugin host ??

Man, with al these nice plugins around, some of which seem to perform as good as the best hardware units (for example: Algorithmix), wouldn't it be great to have something like a universal harware plugin host ?

inspired by:
Focusrites' Liquid Mix:Focusrite: Hi Resolution Product Image
Or, more or less (these are for vst instruments only?):
Plugzilla: KVR: Manifold Labs Plugzilla
Receptor: Muse Research : Receptor Overview
maybe the Weiss Powerhouse, but it's computer controlled.

So you'll have a 19" rack or small desk with programmable dials and a display for basic information (i.e. i can do without the graphical info on the Weiss' displays, just the parameters and their values will do).

Benefits would be:
- dial/button operation which we engineers like for a good reason (spending enough time behind the screen of the DAW ('s)).
- platform independance. This neverending pc/mac dilemma becomes so annoying.
- price of plugins after one-time hardware investment.

Sure there will be issues in the realm of user interface, but what hi-tech interface does an eq really need ?

Q:
What would you think of such a device ? Would you think it makes sense to have it complement your basic gear ?
Or even: do you know if something exists already ?
