SACD recommendations?

I'm looking for some recommendations for SACD's. I've just bought a Korg MR-1000 DSD recorder and I'm looking for some SACD's to test it with (i've also got a SACD player - Sony SCD-1).

I'm not particularly looking for good or new music, more for some SACD's that show off DSD to it's maximum potential (whatever that is!)...so obviously some all analog or all DSD recordings or analog re-issues would be great. Any style.

(and by the way, i know that SACD is not exactly a flourishing format, so no need to get into that!)

Thanks in advance!........... D

Any of the ISOMIKE recordings by Ray Kimber. He uses EMM Labs converters, Genex HD recorders, Millenia pres and Neumann M150 mics. Just awesome.
Also anything from First Impression Music !

Just wondering how you will test the Korg unit with SACD's since it won't play them. The only way I've found to get DSD information off of a SACD is to use my EMM Labs CDSD via ST optical into my EMM Labs converters and record the DSD information in Pyramix or my Tascan DV-RA1000.

Look for productions by Polyhymnia on various labels.

One of my favourites is on the Ondine Label:
Philadelphia Orchestra, Christoph Eschenbach conducting
Bartok Concerto for Orchestra
Superb live performance.
The drum sound in the famous percussion solos are to die for.

Miles Davis "Kind of Blue"

Incubus "A Crow Left of a Murder"

Steely Dan "Gaucho" (the only SD title on SACD)

Bob Ludwig's remasters of The Police catalog

Also, I think Diana Krall's discs sound excellent. (highly recommend these)

I've been underwhelmed by most of my SACDs with the exception of "Tommy." "Ziggy Stardust" and "Slowhand" are pretty good, and there are some surprises in "Big Hits (High Tide ...)" (Stones).

There's a moment on Nick Drake's "A Treasury" where I'm always startled because it sounds like he's in the room. It's shortlived, but it gets me every time. -E

An 'audiophile' SACD and....almost entirely local (.nl) even--most importantly--the converter:
Pieter Wispelwey and Dejan Lazic's
"Beethoven: Complete Sonatas and Variations".

ClassicsToday review is 10/10 (one 'ten' is for sound quality):
Classics Today.com - Your Online Guide to Classical Music

Label: Channel Classics.
Engineered by Jared Sacks, the DSD converter was the AD1, designed by Bruno Putzeys with Grimm Audio.
Grimm Audio

For SACD SQ listening I'd listen to Disk Two first.

^^ I have the Living Stereo Bethoven and Mendelsoohn SACD by the Boston Symphphony and still find track 4 totally an excellent recording. The whole disk is good but that track really shows some good remastering to SACD especially on the strings.

anyone here the new Depeche Mode remasters from analog on SACD? I have heard good things but they are only available via import here in Canada.

I've had no time - i was in Tampa for 2 weeks for family reasons - just got back

A client of mine has had it and should have mixed an album on it, so hopefully i should be able to say something about it soon!

SACD still exists? I haven't bought one in a while. Maybe they are almost dead here in Canada.

Anyway, my copy of Dylan's Blond on Blond is why I still own a SACD player. Amazing. Even the surround is done tastefully.

Are there SACD players that output the audio via HDMI? I believe my new Yamaha surround receiver will play a DSD stream via HDMI.

I would also be curious to know how:

1) you can be 100% sure that the SACD contains pure DSD (practically all editing converts the signal to PCM, and presto: it is no DSD anymore).

2) How can you squeeze pure DSD signal out of a SACD, my understanding is that it is not possible to get pure DSD bitstream from SACDs. SACD players can only send out encrypted signal via HDMI (or firewire in older models). If there is a digital out, it is converted to PCM first, which, again, is not DSD. Thus the big question remains: how are you testing your Korg with SACD????

Jeff Wayne's War Of The Worlds SACD, sounds fantastic - although I should say the DSD comes from a 24/96 PCM transfer from the analog multitracks.

See post #4 above. The EMM Labs and Playback Designs gear outputs a pure DSD stream that can be captured by a Sonoma or Pyramix rig.

The RCA Living Stereo recording of "Pictures at an Exhibition". It was copied directly off of the 3-track tape to 1-bit L,C,R.
Also, Brubeck's "Time Out" album is great if you can get passed the digital reverb. You couldn't believe it was recorded in the 50s.

Didn't the stop tracking it at all?

The only thing going up is LP sales.
