Tubecore 3U ME for "EDM"

I´m looking to get a Tubecore 3U ME for bus duties and mastering 4x4 music.

People say tubes are too slow for EDM but it has a 100ms release setting, same as the old SSL. Should do it right?

Anyone using it this way? Please chime in!

Cheers

Yikes ok, lots of window shopping :P

I know what 100ms sounds like but in a vari-mu things can sound different

Is it fast like a SSL comp at 100ms?

Cheers

I think Acustica’s free Tan compressor is sampled from the Tubecore, so try it for yourself and check out how the timing constants work for you

"TAN is a versatile classic analog VCA-style compressor"

So no one is using this here?

Because it´s cheap? Sounds too clean or crappy?

With the 6386 Tubes it definitvely does not sound crappy and also not too clean.
I like it very very much! But for my taste it shines more on other things than EDM/4*4 music.
It´s not bad for tha though but you should also try phoenix or the varis and see what you like more...

Cheers Joe, can’t try them unfortunately. Well Thomann has a 30 day trial period so I could check out the Tubecore.

I can get a Phoenix SB for 2750 GBP (3400 usd) new but it’s got standard pots, no dry/wet or m/s. A Phoenix master plus is 3900 GBP (4850 USD)
Can’t figure out why it’s so expensive? (I know what Elmas cost and not all are switched on the Phoenix mastering)

The newer HCL Varis looks cool, bummer to have to go to Thailand if there are any problems. Nothing against Thailand, I love that place, it’s the price of the ticket I dislike!

I’m leaning Tubecore with 6836’s

Is it possible to drive the unit without any GR?

I do have a Vintagedesign VDC as well to complement whatever vari-mu I get
