Is there still not a "versatile"/do-all compressor "topology"?

Particularly, I've been trying to find an outboard compressor either in 19" or 500 format. But due to $$$ and space, would be better if one could get just one "do it all".

At this point I think that the Vari-Mu topology is the most versatile. However, I'm not sure about whether something new has appeared. Or whether my perception on Vari-Mu being a "do it all" is solid.

I reckon the Gyraf G24 is certainly pushing the boundaries.

In my view, Vertigo Sound VSC-3 is capable of just about any task. If this is not enough - then one has to tame the burning fire of insecurity.

Yeah this could be a good suggestion. Although I'm not sure how it does it. It's said to be a VCA compressor. So how it relates to opto or vari-mu?

I have used the plug-in version of it. And it's perhaps the most versatile plug-in comp I have.

Well, in mixing there is a “do it all” machine - Distressor (and Arouser).
It is versatile as hell and cand do many VCA, FET, Opto tricks pretty well.

I think the most versatile topology in HW compressors is a clean VCA/PWM with digitally controlled signal control path (so, different curves, hysteresys and all that stuff).
